When setting up your defense try to put a bunker with a 'Siege Tank' in front of it and a 'Missile Turret' in front of the 'Siege Tank'. The reason for this is so that if someone attempts to nuke you then your 'Missile Turret' will see his 'ghost' and your 'Siege Tank' will be able to kill it. This setup will also protect it from air and ground attacks, even rushes. Now one of the best defenses is to keep a 'SCV' or two near your defense and make sure that you make use of these, as soon as someone attacks you and a building or large unit is damaged then send those 'SCVs' to work on repairing the damaged units, the difference this makes is incredible, I have won so many battles by using this strategy.

Never forget to build the proper defense right away, but also very important, don't try to upgrade too fast without building offensive units, without both it is very hard to reach a victory. Rushing is one of the most commonly used strategies for it is the easiest to perform and takes very little skill, it is the strategy that most newbies use although if you can then try to learn how to play with your brain and not your strength. Rushing is simply building lots of 'Barracks' and as many 'Marines' as possible and then attacking very early in the game before your enemy gets a chance to build defense.

Don't make the mistake of keeping all your units in one place, spread them out a bit to avoid loosing them all by a nuke or getting slaughtered by cloaked units. Use everything you have! Don't just make one type of unit, make a little of each and take advantage of their strong points. Make small attacks on your opponent every now and then to keep them on the defensive while you work on upgrading your units and expanding. A fact that you must already know is that you must expand as soon as possible and take as much as you can, in the long one it is the person with more resources that will win unless he is real dumb.

Work fast and use hotkeys to assist you in your victory. To use hotkeys simple select the unit(s) in which you would like to assign a hotkey and press Ctrl+# (# = any number from 0-9), to recall the unit(s) simple press the selected key. Try to keep one hand on the mouse and the other on the key-board. Also use short-cut keys, instead of clicking on a 'SCV', clicking on build and then clicking on 'Supply Depot' just click on the unit, press 'B' for build and then 'S' for Supply Depot'. Using these short-cuts will make things much easier and faster for you.

When placing units think about where you are going to put them and how they will best defend against an attack. If there is a hill then take advantage of that, remember that ground units cannot see what is on top, there for giving you the ability to shot while they can't even see you. Something I do to annoy my enemies is build 'Missile Turrets' all over the map and put a few 'Siege Tanks' around them to protect them from ground units, the reason why I do this is because for my opponent to attack me he will run into several of these little defenses giving me time to prepare my defense and taking out some of his units. this also makes it very hard for them to move around because they never know when they are going to run into something. Spreading 'Spider Mines' around the map is also a great strategy, they will catch 'Ghosts' before they get a chance to nuke you and also work as little detectors to warn you of upcoming attacks.

For now this is all I'm going to say, listen and think about what I told you. In the future I will be adding many more tips and strategies, if you would like to send me any strategies of your own then please feel free to do so. Oh and one more thing, don't waist your time telling people to type /refresh because it really doesn't exist and I have no idea where all of you got this from. If you think about the logic of an internet connection then you will know that there is no way there can be a /refresh, a person can show 1 green bar of lag and still lag in a game, or show 6 red bars and play at a nice fast speed. If anything then all a /refresh could possibly do if it existed is reping to check the latency.
